The comprehensive indicator for evaluating the quality of sewing thread is sewability. Stitchability refers to the ability of a sewing thread to sew smoothly and form good stitches under specified conditions, while maintaining a certain degree of mechanical performance in the stitches. The quality of sewability will have a direct impact on clothing production efficiency, sewing quality, and wearability. According to national standards, sewing thread is classified into first class, second class, and substandard products. In order to ensure good sewability and satisfactory sewing results of sewing thread in clothing processing, it is crucial to select and apply sewing thread correctly. The correct application of sewing thread should follow the following principles:

(1) Compatibility with fabric characteristics: The sewing thread must have the same or similar raw materials as the fabric in order to achieve uniformity in shrinkage, heat resistance, wear resistance, durability, etc., avoiding differences between the thread and fabric that may cause appearance shrinkage.

(2) Consistent with the type of clothing: For special purpose clothing, special functional sewing threads should be considered. For example, elastic clothing needs to use elastic sewing threads, and firefighting clothing needs to use sewing threads that have undergone heat resistance, flame retardancy, and waterproof treatment.

(3) Harmony with the stitch form: different parts of the garment use different stitches, and the sewing thread should also be changed accordingly. If baggy thread or deformed thread is required for the overlock, the double line stitch should choose the thread with large extensibility, the crotch seam and shoulder seam should be firm, and the buttoned eyeliner should be wear-resistant.

(4) Unify with quality and price: The quality and price of sewing thread should be consistent with the grade of clothing. High quality clothing should use high-quality and expensive sewing thread, while medium and low-end clothing should use sewing thread with average quality and moderate price. Generally, the label of sewing thread is marked with the grade of sewing thread, raw materials used, yarn count, etc., which helps us choose and use sewing thread reasonably. The sewing thread label usually includes four items (arranged in order): yarn thickness, color, raw materials, and processing method, which can be represented in the form of "60/2x3 white polyester thread".
